Sen. Cassidy Named Chair of Senate HELP Committee

  • Nov 18, 2024

US Senator Bill Cassidy, MD (R-LA), a longtime champion of health care and a strong supporter of podiatry, will serve as chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee in the 119th Congress.

This exciting news highlights a major opportunity for podiatric medicine to have its voice heard on Capitol Hill. As the first physician to chair the HELP Committee since 1933, Dr. Cassidy brings a unique perspective and deep understanding of the health-care challenges faced by both providers and patients. APMA has worked closely with Dr. Cassidy over the years, collaborating on several bills he introduced on behalf of APMA to support the profession.

During his tenure as ranking member of the HELP Committee, Dr. Cassidy demonstrated strong leadership in advancing key health-care reforms, including reducing prescription drug costs and addressing pharmacy benefit manager practices. His appointment is a significant step forward in ensuring podiatry’s priorities remain at the forefront of health-care policy discussions. APMA sincerely looks forward to collaborating with him and his team to advance our legislative advocacy agenda in the upcoming congressional session.
