APMA is saddened to report that William F. Munsey, DPM, past president, has passed away.
Dr. Munsey graduated from Capital University and earned his DPM degree at the then-Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed a six-month internship with the late D. Wayne Myers, DPM. He was in private practice in Ohio for 40 years providing general and surgical podiatric care until his retirement in 1996.
Dr. Munsey served as president of the then-Ohio Podiatric Medical Association. He was elected president of APMA in 1979. Dr. Munsey served as president of PICA before becoming vice president for more than a decade. He was also the president of the Fund for Podiatry Education and Research and was a board member for more than 10 years. Dr. Munsey was an active member of the APMA House of Delegates for more than four decades, serving as protocol officer twice and speaker of the house from 2000–2006.
Dr. Munsey was the recipient of many honors and awards culminating in the APMA Distinguished Service Citation in 2009. He has authored several articles and books and was the editor of the APMA News Insurance Advisor column for 25 years. Dr. Munsey will be deeply missed by a grateful profession.
Dr. Munsey was married to his first wife, Helen Jarvis, until her death in 1989; they had two daughters, Gina Marie Munsey (John) Carlin and Sue Ellen Munsey (Steve) Gimmi. He is also survived by two grandchildren and one great grandchild and his wife Danna, whom he married in 1990. Visitation will be at Schoedinger Worthington (6699 North High Street, Worthington, OH 43085) on Sunday, June 30, from 6–8 p.m. On Monday, July 1, there will be an hour of visitation from 9–10 a.m., with a service to follow at Grace Polaris Church.
