APMA held the Annual Scientific Meeting (The National) in Washington, DC, August 8–11, gathering members from across the nation.
On the opening day, APMA’s Center for Professional Advocacy (CPA), in conjunction with the DC Podiatric Medical Association, had the honor of welcoming staff from the DC City Council’s Heath Committee, including Kendra Wiley (councilmember Parker’s office) and Jerry Clark (councilmember Nadeau’s office). Wiley and Clark joined the CPA to learn more about podiatry, and were thanked for their support in helping the CPA succeed in preventing a licensing board consolidation in the District, which would have been detrimental to podiatric physicians.
The council staff attended the opening session presented by John Steinberg, DPM, a professor and full-time faculty member at Georgetown University. DC council staff visited DC-related exhibitors and sat down for a discussion with members from the DC Podiatric Medical Association (DCPMA). Wiley commented, “The conference was an incredible experience, offering deep insights into the vital work podiatrists do, particularly in the realm of diabetic care.” Read more about The National in APMA’s news feed, and learn about licensing board consolidation issues.
Introducing lawmakers to the essential contributions of DPMs is crucial for ensuring their understanding and support. This way, APMA and its state affiliates can rely on allies during legislative challenges across the country. We are grateful to DCPMA President Joel Morse, DPM, for bringing this idea to life.
