Following APMA advocacy for a fix to the ICD-10-CM code set, effective October 1, “Calcaneal apophysitis” is no longer an inclusion term under M92.8 (Other specified juvenile osteochondrosis).
For many years, “Calcaneal apophysitis” was an inclusion term under M92.8 and “Sever’s disease” was listed as an inclusion term under M92.6- (Juvenile osteochondrosis of tarsus). This duplication caused confusion. APMA, through its Coding Committee, advocated for the removal of “Calcaneal apophysitis” as an inclusion term under M92.8, and this request was accepted and is effective now. When coding for Sever’s disease, providers should be using an M92.6- ICD-10-CM code.
