All seven Part B Medicare Administrative Contractors have announced a multi-jurisdictional Carrier Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting to discuss the evidence relating to trigger point injections.
Trigger point injections are injections performed directly into a muscle, typically to address myofascial pain. These trigger point injections are most commonly performed in the lower neck and upper back and claims data indicates they are very rarely performed by podiatrists. APMA plans to monitor the results of this meeting, coordinate with members who have interest in this procedure, and communicate with Part B MACs through the CAC process as needed.
