APMA leadership met with representatives from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration on April 28 to discuss regulatory avenues for correcting the complete omission of any references to podiatric physicians, APMA, or the Council on Podiatric Medical Education in the original statutory language and subsequent guidance. While SAMHSA was receptive to the issues this oversight has created for our members, any solution they might offer will unfortunately take some time.
While APMA continues to work with SAMHSA and with Congress to fix the statutory language so that APMA and other CPME-approved entities can provide this education directly to podiatric physicians, we have a created a resource page, where you can find all the information you need in one place: www.apma.org/DEAMATE. This page includes links to approved education providers, answers to the most frequently asked questions by members, and more.
If you have questions, contact the APMA Health Policy and Practice department at healthpolicy.hpp@apma.org.
